Movies that I can watch again and again! (World Cinema)

After compiling a list of my favourite Indian Movies in my last post, now is the time to pick my International favourites.
P.S. I Love You - Genre: Romance/Drama

A young widow discovers that her late husband has left her 10 messages intended to help ease her pain and start a new life. - IMDB

Based Cecelia Ahern's novel by the same name, P.S. I Love You  is mushy, sad and beautiful at the same time. Oh how I cry when I watch the scene where Holly (Hillary Swank) calls on Gerry's (Gerard Butler) phone after coming back from his memorial meeting/party and listens to his voice mail welcome message repeatedly.

The Notebook  - Genre: Romance/Drama

A poor and passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman and gives her a sense of freedom. They soon are separated by their social differences. - IMDB

Again, a film adapted from a book, The Notebook is based on Nicholas Sparks' novel. Now, all those who love romance genre must have heard about Sparks as he has written some really beautiful love stories such as A Wallk to Remember, Message in a Bottle and Dear John. But The Notebook is the best of the lot! Passionate, sentimental, tear-jerking, entertaining and the amazing duo- Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are the reasons why I love it.

Hangover - Genre: Comedy

Three buddies wake up from a bachelor party in Las Vegas, with no memory of the previous night and the bachelor missing. They make their way around the city in order to find their friend before his wedding. - IMDB

Absolutely hilarious, engrossing and such a witty script! The sequels were disappointing but the first Hangover was great. Zach Galifianakis who plays Alan is the best!

The Help - Genre: Drama

An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maids' point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. - IMDB

Backed by powerful performances by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain,  Bryce Dallas Howard and Allison Janney, The Help is thoroughly entertaining. The story is set in a complex tragic time and is special.  BTW this is adapted from a book too written by Kathryn Stockett.

Amelie - Genre: Drama/Romance/Comedy

Amelie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love. - IMDB

Amelie is a quirky, interesting and funny French movie that I adore. The stunning French actress, Audrey Tautou plays the title role with elan and makes you want to be a part of her eccentric life.

Kill Bill - Genre: Action/Crime

The Bride wakens from a four-year coma. The child she carried in her womb is gone. Now she must wreak vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her - a team she was once part of. - IMDB

I never imagined even in my wildest dreams that I will enjoy an action packed gory film. But I more than  enjoyed this Quentin Tarantino movie. Kill Bill is a good old revenge saga mixed with impressive background score, violence, blood and excellent ensemble cast.

Up - Genre: Animation/Adventure/Drama

By tying thousands of balloons to his home, 78-year-old Carl sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years younger, inadvertently becomes a stowaway. - IMDB

Up is an animation movie released in 2009, which is one of the two animated movie ever to be nominated under Best Picture category in Oscar. Funny, charming, touching and imaginative, this movie has an universal appeal across age groups.

Final Destination Series - Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Horror

Final Destination 1 - After a teenager has a terrifying vision of him and his friends dying in a plane crash, he prevents the accident only to have Death hunt them down, one by one. - IMDB

So far, 5 Final Destination movies have come out. And the only reason I watch it is to see what new ways the makers invent to kill the characters and how they build the suspense. I guess that's the only reason why anyone would watch these movies. :D Awful, gory and disturbing deaths but its thrilling for some reason.

Sherlock Holmes - Genre: Action/Adventure/Crime/ Mystery

Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England. - IMDB

Intriguing plot, entertaining story, Guy Ritchie's direction and Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock and Jude Law as Dr. Watson are reasons enough to watch this movie. Thoroughly amusing.

Inception
A thief who steals corporate secrets through use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a CEO. - IMDB

I am still trying to decode the movie and understand if it was set in a complete dream or not. That's why I watch it again and again. Christopher Nolan, you are playing with my head & mind. :D Amazing work!!
